The reading passage says that he high-speed rail lines benefit people in the US, but the lecturer asserts that the theory stated in the passage is inaccurate and different from reality.
First, according to the lecture, High-speed railway will not save money spent maintaining the roads and to be more accurate, building high- speed rail lines cost more. This is because the government in California has to borrow 100 million, which takes up 75% of annual fiscal avenue and it is hard to pay back alone. This directly refutes what the passage indicates.
Second, the professor says that it is not likely that more citizens will choose to take high-speed train, which can relieve traffic congestion. It is obvious that whether people will choose to take high-speed train depends on whether it is convenient for them to go to train station. But people need driving to the train station first, which is not contributing to traffic jams. This is another part where the lecture contradicts the passage.
Third, although the professor admits that this means of transportation is one of the most environmentally friendly forms because it is fuel- efficient while the train is running at a high speed, he points out that the railway cannot cover all the areas, and somewhere in California is speed-limited, so there is nothing different from regular trains.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Professor should prohibit the use of devices that can connect to the internet in class.
對于這道題目,如果同意,就說the use of devices that can connect to the internet in class的缺點(diǎn)。如果不同意,就說the use of devices that can connect to the internet in class 的優(yōu)點(diǎn)。
With the development of technology, many students would like to take some devices such as a smartphone, a tablet, or a laptop into the classroom and use them while the professor is teaching. Some people think that this is good for them. However, I hold the opposite view that Professor should prohibit the use of devices that can connect to the Internet in class.
For one thing, there is almost no information that cannot be found on the Internet. Let’s say a student take a laptop with him in class. When he is encountered with problems while listening to the professor, he may hop on the computer to search for the solution instead of asking the professor directly as it is so convenient to search the web. But in fact, it is really time- consuming while searching for the correct or relevant information on the web as there is so much information on it. So it is highly probable that he misses another important point because of pursuing one point using the Internet, which is not worth doing indeed.
Also, as a matter of fact, sometimes the knowledge taught by the professor is boring and at this time the student would be more likely to do something to get rid of the boredom. If we assume that a laptop is at handy, he may use it to find something interesting, which could have nothing to do the lecture and even he would get access to some social networking sites to check out those gossiping news, which definitely exert a negative influence on their study. But if no internet is available at that time, the student tend to force himself to concentrate on the professor’s lecture and even though it’s boring, it’s beneficial to them.
The same logic also applies to using a smartphone, but if they use the phone in class, that’d produce more problems, because we they use the phone, they would lower down their heads, which would definitely affect the professor’s emotion because he thinks the students are not listening to him. In this occasion, how is the professor supposed to show the best presentation to the class?
As a final statement I would like to say that to ensure the efficiency of learning, the use of devices that can connect to the internet in class should be banned by professors.

The United States currently has high-speed railway lines on the East Coast of the country. The East Coast high-speed trains have been very successful, and some experts believe that a similar high-speed rail system to connect the cities of San Francisco and Los Angeles in the state of California on the West Coast would have many benefits as well.
First, maintaining roads is expensive, and because of budget constraints, the state of California has had great difficulty in ensuring that the repairs needed to keep the roads in top condition are made. Advocates of the high-speed rail proposal point out that when people who would have driven to their destination take the train instead, there will be less damage to the roads. The amount of maintenance needed on roads will therefore decrease.
In addition, traffic congestion on one of the major roads between San Francisco and Los Angeles is already at record levels, and transportation experts predict that it will double over the next 25 years; clearly, this problem must be addressed. In some areas of the East Coast where traffic congestion has been a problem, high-speed trains have helped relieve the congestion, and they have become the most popular way to travel between some East Coast cities. A high-speed train between San Francisco and Los Angeles could become just as popular and could play a major role in helping to lower traffic congestion.
Finally, high-speed trains are one of the most environmentally friendly forms of transportation. Trains running at a high rate of speed are very fuel efficient: about five times more fuel efficient than cars and twice as efficient as regular trains. A high-speed rail line between San Francisco and Los Angeles could eliminate many billions of pounds of harmful fuel emissions produced by car engines and regular trains every year.
