This program is offered as a combined major. The focus is on the period from Late Antiquity to the 17th century.

It draws from many different disciplines and emphasizes interrelations among art, architecture, history, literature, music and thought. You’ll develop the skills and habits of critical inquiry, analysis, argument and expression.

Course offerings range from the end of the Roman world to Renaissance Italy, from Byzantium to Iceland, and from the reading of Latin literature to the analysis of Chaucer, Dante and Shakespeare, among many others, as well as the music, art and architecture of the period.

Studying in the Humanities provides you with optimal choice. You will apply to a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities – Faculty of Humanities, and may choose your major program after having the opportunity to explore various courses in first year.

The Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies offers a combined major program leading to a BA (Honours or Pass) and Minor for students in other disciplines. Medieval and Renaissance Studies can be combined with any other program offering a combined major option. Medieval and Renaissance Studies core courses may also be taken as electives by students in other disciplines.

Course offerings range from the late Roman world to Renaissance Italy, from Byzantium to Iceland, and from the reading of seminal authors like Dante, Chaucer and Shakespeare among many others. As well, our courses explore the culture, religion, music, architecture and art of the Middle Ages and Renaissance.

Applicants must have Senior Secondary school credential appropriate for entry to university in your home country; academically rigorous grade 12 year; Minimum B- average (higher for some programs). Applicants who have successfully completed the IB diploma with the appropriate prerequisite subjects will be considered for admission. Students must have completed a (Grade 12) Senior High School Graduation Certificate (3 Years) plus final transcript showing Grade 12 first and second term grades. English proficiency requirements: IELTS - overall 6.5, no band below 6.0, TOEFL - overall 88, with minimum 21 on speaking and 21 on writing, MELAB - overall 85, no other part under 80, CAEL - overall 70, no other band score under 60, IELP Level 5 - Successful completion of Level 5 of the Brock Intensive English Language program.
