When you study Information Systems, you’ll develop business acumen with technical expertise. Unique to Concordia University, you earn a third of your credits from the John Molson School of Business which, when combined with a computer science core, gives you the skills to develop solutions for the business world. As a computer scientist with a flair for business, this expertise may lead you to develop market research software, customer information systems or other analytical tools that can bring entrepreneurial success.

Our state-of-the-art labs for high-performance computing, networks and artificial intelligence will give you experience with equipment you will use in the field. Through labs, lectures and projects, you’ll also:

• Integrate complex software systems into contemporary business environments.
• Explore advanced computing options for organizational processes such as operations management and supply chain control.
• Design database-driven applications for both operational control and data analysis.

After graduation you’ll have the knowledge, skill and passion to succeed in any number of computing careers this versatile degree prepares you for.

The Information Systems option combines a Major in Computer Science with approximately a third of the credits from the John Molson School of Business to create a program focusing on business applications of computer systems. Through exposure to basic concepts and procedures in accounting, finance, management information systems, management and marketing, students will gain an appreciation of the types of information processing used in business, and of the problems unique to the business world. This option allows graduates to use the computer intelligently as a tool to solve the numerous information problems of the commercial environment, and to aid in corporate decision-making.

We offer an honours program to computer science students with high academic standing. You may apply to the honours program once you have completed 30 credits.

Co-op program

The Computer Science Co-op program gives you the chance to complete paid work terms that last 12 to 16 weeks. As a Co-op student, you will assist in projects designed and implemented by professionals and may also:

• Analyze and develop computer solutions
• Design and create new software, and modify and test existing software used in a broad range of businesses and industries
• Plan and implement computer security systems for database access control

After your degree

Given the range of applications in use today, computer science alumni have established careers in a range of sectors including health care, communications, manufacturing, banking, retail, electronics and entertainment.
