What is the Course about?

Accounting focuses on the day-to-day management of financial reports and records across the business world, while finance uses the same information to project further growth and to analyse expenditure in order to strategise comapny finances. Combining these areas gives an overview of financial strategy and control while providing focus on professional principles and processes used in order to manage numbers.

Course Structure

This is a four-year Level 8 course with 60 ECTS per annum, with the final two years concentrating on exemptions for the professional accounting bodies. There are seven modules in Year 3 and six modules in Year 4. All modules are mandatory. Your final overall classification will be based on a combination of your Year 3 (1/3) and Year 4 (2/3) results.

Is this course for you?

Mathematics and English are good indicator subjects for a career in accounting. Mathematics is useful as Accounting is a mathematical subject. English is important as you will need to explain complex accounting concepts to non-accountants in simple language. The course will start your journey to a professional accounting qualification which will open local, national and international career opportunities.

Applied Knowledge and Applied Skills Level - all subjects

Certificate Level - all subjects
Operational Level - all subjects
Management Level - P2 Advanced Management Accounting and F2 Advanced Financial Reporting.

Strong emphasis on communications and computing equips graduates with real-world skills required by employers.

What follow-on study opportunities are available?

Graduates who achieve a minimum of a second-class honours degree are eligible to apply to undertake a research or taught masters at Institute of Technology Carlow or other institutions.
