The Department of Mechanical Engineering prepares graduates for careers in industry, research, and academia. Students specialize in Design/Manufacturing/Tribology, Dynamics, Control, Robotics, Neural Engineering, Simulation Driven Engineering, Solid Mechanics, Fluid Dynamics, Nanotechnology/MEMS, Bioengineering and Biomechanics, Energy and Sustainability, Engineering Design and Innovation, Product Development, Engineering Management and other disciplines.

We combine innovative teaching and pioneering research in a highly collaborative environment that transcends traditional academic boundaries. Graduate students are not required to follow a rigid curriculum. Each student may tailor a course of study that accommodates individual needs, talents, and interests.

The MS program in mechanical engineering is designed to provide the student with advanced technical knowledge beyond what is offered in a bachelor's program and offers some exposure to research at the cutting edge of today's technology.

The MS program requires at least three-quarters of course work and the completion of a thesis or project on a research topic. It is possible for students to complete the program in as little as nine months although most students take between 12 and 15 months to complete all the requirements.

Students?must hold a U.S. bachelor’s degree — or a comparable non-U.S. degree — from a regionally accredited institution. TGS will accept applications from international students with 3-year bachelor's degrees.
