Geology is a discipline centered on teaching how to interpret the history of the Earth. Learn to discover, recognize and use natural resources to improve the quality of human life.

Our undergraduate curriculum is designed to prepare you for graduate school and careers in industry as well as federal and state agencies. We offer suggested courses for select sub-disciplines in Geology to better serve your interests.

Courses to expect for this major include Structural Geology, Geomorphology, Evolution of Earth, and Plate Tectonics.

Career paths

Through studying the history of the Earth, students discover, recognize and use natural resources to improve the quality of life, making Geology majors ideal candidates in the workforce. Our graduates have pursued successful careers in a variety of fields: Graduate School; Petroleum and Energy Industry; Academia and Governmental Agencies; Environmental Geologist; Geochemist; Geomorphologist; Hydrogeologist; Mineralogist; Petroleum Geologist; Sedimentologist; Seismologist; Stratigraphic.

Highlights: Field Camp in Canon City, Colorado, teaches mapping, measuring, describing and interpreting the rock column; Geochemistry Lab consists of state-of-the-art instruments, geochemical equipment and lab facilities; The Boone Pickens School of Geology has a strong emphasis in applied and basic petroleum related research.
