Our BA (Hons) top up year is practitioner focused and its key ethos is preparing you for a variety of roles within the film and media industries. A key focus is preparing you to take on a variety of traditional roles ranging from camera operator, editor, director, producer to more independent roles as a multi-skilled and adaptable freelancer. This includes the roles already mentioned but wider roles such as video artist, motion designer, social documentarist. The way that we consume film and screen media is ever-changing. The production, content and distribution of film and screen industry is developing alongside advancing technologies in an increasingly networked culture. Film and Screen Media BA (Hons) top up has a strong focus on developing your skills to prepare you for this constantly evolving industry. The course looks beyond traditional roots into industry and promotes students to develop their own visual style which can lead to a variety of options after graduation. With a strong emphasis on freelance and skills and personal responses to moving image narratives our students develop flexible and adaptable approaches to film and screen media.The three strands of the course are filmmaking, motion design/visual effects and screen practices. At this stage in the student career there is more focus directed to a chosen career path. However, we also encourage students to still experiment and push their film and screen practice forward in a creative and professional manner. Taught elements in the top up year cover a range of advanced sessions on film and moving image techniques, motion graphics and digital effects, 360° camera narrative workflow and working professionally as a freelancer. Along with skills in enterprise and employability relevant to the sector students will be more confident moving into industry employment while promoting you to see moving image through a different lens.You will be continually challenged and encouraged to pursue not only your career path but to explore your own unique style of visual language creation. All modules allow you to produce a professional portfolio of high quality work. Which can be used to showcase a range of creative skills and aptitudes to help you move into the film and screen industries
