The College of Arts & Sciences and the Louis D. Brandeis School of Law have collaborated to create an accelerated 3+3 Law Program that allows eligible students in the College of Arts & Sciences to begin law school in their senior year of undergraduate study. Students substitute undergraduate major requirements with the first 30 hours of law school, earning an undergraduate degree after their first year of law school and the Juris Doctor degree two years later.

About Criminal Justice and Law

Studies in criminal justice examine public security and order, providing a good preparation for the study and practice of law as an attorney. This reflects the views of the great Justice Louis Brandeis that the social and economic sciences inform the just rule of law, what he called “The Living Law.” The lessons learned are applicable whether a student pursues a career in criminal law and legal compliance, or chooses a civil or domestic law path or future employment with a federal law enforcement agency. All require an understanding of human nature under the rule of law. Our criminal justice curriculum covers significant societal issues, to include the challenges facing law enforcement and correction organizations, criminal behavior theory, the juvenile justice system, human trafficking, terrorism, cybercrime, homicide, and sex crimes. We also emphasize developing research and critical thinking skills through courses on quantitative and qualitative analysis and research methods. You will have the opportunity to gain insight and knowledge of the criminal justice system and its impact on society and the world we live in today.

General Education (34 hours)

All degrees require the completion of the University-wide General Education Program. Some General Education requirements may be met in the requirements for the major or supporting coursework, in which case additional electives may be required to complete the minimum hours for the degree.

A & S Programmatic Requirements (13-15 hours)

• General 101: A & S Orientation
• Foreign Language (completion of the second semester of a single foreign language; hours will vary depending on language taken)
• Electives in Humanities or Natural Sciences at 300 level or above (in addition to courses counted toward General Education)
• WR - two approved courses at the 300 level or above (may be incorporated into other degree requirements)
