This is a 4-year full-time degree course, offered on the Hobart campus only, which may also be studied part time.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Fine Arts (AQF Level 7) graduates will be able to:

Acquire, consolidate, critically evaluate, reflect and synthesise advanced knowledge in one of the humanities and social sciences disciplines and in one of the fine arts disciplines.
Demonstrate critical thinking by identifying, defining and solving problems with intellectual independence.
Make evidence based decisions that take account of diverse contexts and constraints impacting on societies and environments.
Communicate information effectively in written, visual and oral forms with a diverse range of stakeholders.
Work effectively, responsibly, respectfully and safely in individual and/or team contexts.
Demonstrate self-management, flexibility, initiative and resilience in readiness for diverse workplace demands.

Course structure

The combined degree requirements consist of:

A Major in each degree component of 8 units (100cp)
A Minor in the Arts component of 4 units (50cp), a minor in the Fine Arts component of 6 units (75cp)
Degree Core Knowledge units in the Arts component, 4 units (50cp)
Degree Electives units in the Fine Arts component, 2 units (25cp)

Admission to undergraduate courses at the University of Tasmania requires qualifications equivalent to the 12th year of schooling in Australia. English language requirements: IELTS (Academic) - 6.0 (no individual band less than 5.5); TOEFL (IBT) 72 (no skill below: Reading 10; Listening 9; Speaking 16; Writing 19); PTE Academic 50 with no score lower than 42; UTAS Access-English Level 6 - 60% (no individual score less than 55%); Cambridge CAE (Certificate of Advanced English) - B Grade; Cambridge CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English) - C Grade; Cambridge BEC (Business English Certificate) Higher - C Grade.
