You’re fascinated by the science of medicine. How things work. What makes our bodies do the things they do. A Bachelor of Medical Science will give you the tools to take that fascination and transform it into an amazing future.

Western Sydney University's Advanced Medical Science degree allows all the flexibility of the Medical Science degree and is designed for high-achieving students who want to extend themselves.

This is a challenging program that includes advanced work, extension activities and additional research training. You will be linked to experienced researchers and be mentored throughout the Advanced Medical Science program.

Majors: Biomedical Science; Medicinal Chemistry; Anatomy and Physiology

This degree is exclusively for high-achieving students, and will continually challenge you to do even better and build on your academic success. Students in the Advanced degree program are automatically enrolled in The Academy Opens in new window, which offers interdisciplinary leadership programs, professional development and local and international internship and engagement opportunities for students.

Professional accreditation

The Medicinal Chemistry major for this degree is accredited by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI) for normal entry of a graduate to the Chartered Chemist qualification.

Your career

As a Medical Science graduate, you will have a variety of career options to choose from, including roles in: medical research; hospitals; pathology laboratories; veterinary pathology laboratories; government health departments; research and laboratory positions with organisations such as the CSIRO and the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO).

Students must have Australian Year 12 Higher School Certificate in or outside Australia; International Baccalaureate in Australia; New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA), Level 3. English language requirements: IELTS (Academic version): 6.5 overall score, minimum 6.0 in each subtest; TOEFL internet-based score: Total score 82, Writing 21, Speaking 18, Reading 13, Listening 13; Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE): 58 overall; No communication skills less than 50; Successful completion of three years (Gao San) with a minimum score for entry to Second Tier universities in China from the National Entrance Examination (Gao Kao) cut off thresholds for Science and the relevant province, or successful completion of the first year of a Bachelor’s degree at a recognized university.
