項(xiàng)目背景:時(shí)尚是個(gè)人審美和自我認(rèn)知的展現(xiàn)。時(shí)尚是一種情緒,一種精神,傳媒則是將這種情緒和精神商業(yè)化的手段。“我自己決定想成為誰(shuí),這就是我。”以無(wú)盡的方式詮釋創(chuàng)意,將獨(dú)立與叛逆升華為藝術(shù),不斷打破社會(huì)傳統(tǒng)對(duì)女性的刻板認(rèn)知,重塑自由、獨(dú)立、雋永的全新女性形象,這是時(shí)尚傳奇香奈兒女士發(fā)動(dòng)的時(shí)尚之戰(zhàn)。時(shí)至今日,時(shí)尚不僅作為一種自我表達(dá),更是一種社會(huì)權(quán)力形式,與商業(yè)有著密切聯(lián)系。譬如,亞文化下的時(shí)尚和風(fēng)格往往被視為抵制主流文化主導(dǎo)和壓迫的手段。項(xiàng)目將站在傳媒、文化與傳播學(xué)角度,展示媒體如何塑造時(shí)尚和風(fēng)格,并將其與更龐大的社會(huì)權(quán)力體系聯(lián)系起來(lái)。
項(xiàng)目介紹:在過(guò)去的一個(gè)世紀(jì)里,摩登時(shí)尚和風(fēng)格化作為一種文化形式發(fā)生了巨大的變革。長(zhǎng)期以來(lái),時(shí)尚在個(gè)人層面被用作自我表現(xiàn)和自我表達(dá)的手段,在社會(huì)發(fā)展層面,時(shí)尚也與生產(chǎn)系統(tǒng)有關(guān)。隨著服裝創(chuàng)作從手工制作的形式轉(zhuǎn)向工廠、數(shù)字系統(tǒng)和快時(shí)尚消費(fèi),時(shí)尚的概念也發(fā)生了變化。反觀人類近代史,西方世界每個(gè)社會(huì)時(shí)期人類的審美觀都會(huì)有巨大的個(gè)體差異,但在算法技術(shù)和定向推薦的互聯(lián)網(wǎng)時(shí)代,這種個(gè)體差異正在被逐漸縮小,媒體和相關(guān)產(chǎn)業(yè)在不斷地引導(dǎo)人們于一段時(shí)間內(nèi)建立一種趨于一致的審美觀念,進(jìn)而幫助資本從中獲取集中且大量的商業(yè)利益,但是時(shí)尚本身的文化寓意與價(jià)值卻在這個(gè)進(jìn)程中走向泯滅。例如對(duì)于小麥膚色/美黑這一審美特色的推崇,周期性的出現(xiàn)在時(shí)尚的潮流中,使人們對(duì)于健康的理解具象化的同時(shí)擁有了站在潮流浪尖上展示身體的契機(jī),同時(shí)相關(guān)的產(chǎn)業(yè)也獲得了巨大的推動(dòng)力。在時(shí)尚的社會(huì)影響力方面,20世紀(jì)上半葉二戰(zhàn)前夕在美國(guó)風(fēng)靡一時(shí)的阻特裝(Zoot Suit),曾是是社會(huì)底層非裔、拉丁裔青年表達(dá)自我價(jià)值與展示反抗精神的一種象征,寬大的墊肩、極其肥大的燈籠褲與帶羽毛的禮帽也是當(dāng)時(shí)時(shí)尚藝術(shù)、表演、媒體等從業(yè)者對(duì)于共同價(jià)值觀導(dǎo)向的一種象征與共情,從亞文化代表逐漸成為了主流文化的一個(gè)重要分支。但在90年代后現(xiàn)代主義巔峰時(shí)期,阻特裝依然存在卻再次回到了亞文化范圍內(nèi),成為了一種亞時(shí)尚或是復(fù)古的代表,其內(nèi)涵的思潮意義早已不復(fù)存在,也不再有人繼續(xù)深入探討,成為了文化歷史長(zhǎng)河中的又一例“物證”。在二十一世紀(jì)的第二個(gè)十年開(kāi)始之際,這種夸張的時(shí)尚風(fēng)潮再次席卷了歐美文化圈,結(jié)合當(dāng)前世界的反壓迫潮流,阻特裝又能否回歸他的初衷?學(xué)生在項(xiàng)目中將討論為什么時(shí)尚經(jīng)常被用作維護(hù)社會(huì)權(quán)力的主導(dǎo)形式,時(shí)尚又是如何幫助定義男性化或女性化?進(jìn)而討論時(shí)尚是以一種什么形式成為了文化的一部分,甚至成為一個(gè)國(guó)家風(fēng)格的代表。項(xiàng)目還將探討亞文化形式的時(shí)尚和風(fēng)格,分析亞文化作為抵制社會(huì)主導(dǎo)規(guī)范和壓迫的文化形式的具體案例,幫助學(xué)生理解時(shí)尚和風(fēng)格作為當(dāng)代文化表現(xiàn)形式的重要性,項(xiàng)目將列舉時(shí)尚作為上述表現(xiàn)形式的的多個(gè)具體案例,向?qū)W生提供了批判性分析風(fēng)格的主要框架,包括來(lái)自媒體研究、傳播和文化研究等領(lǐng)域的學(xué)術(shù)觀點(diǎn)。項(xiàng)目將以論文作為最終產(chǎn)出。
Over the past century, fashion and style have changed dramatically as cultural forms. While they have long been used as a means of self-representation and self-expression, they are also connected to systems of production. They have shifted as garment creation moved from hand-produced forms, to factories, to digital systems and fast fashion. They have also been used to assert dominant forms of social power, helping to define what it means to be aman or woman, part of a culture, or a citizen of a nation. At the same time, subcultural forms of fashion and style have been used to resist dominant norms and oppressive cultural forms. To help students to understand the significance of fashion and style as forms of contemporary culture, this course analyzes specific cases of fashion, introduces students to the major frameworks for critically analyzing style, and includes scholarly perspectives from the fields of media studies, communication, and cultural studies.

How does fashion and style reinforce traditional notions of gender? How can it be used to develop new forms of gender expression? How do particular forms of fashion offer a means of cultural resistance?
